This project is mainly based on the flower paintings of the American painter Morris Graves. He used mulberry paper and painted with watercolours and tempera paint.
The tempera paint works amazingly well on wet mulberry paper, the colours after layering , become luminescent and dazzle the artist and viewer alike. We have experimented on dozens of different mulberry and other plant papers even mulberry bark, is was great fun and interesting and we all enjoyed the challenge.
The other artist featured is Mary Cassatt also an American painter, her main images were of mothers and children, her pastels especially, are elegant, translucent and very beautiful, some people are using pastels, some oils, its very hard to paint people but very good work was done and is being done.
